Rhytidectomy SMAS Mid-Face

Face Lift.

A face lift gathers the loosening that accumulates over the years and offers an elegant rejuvenation that preserves natural contours. The aim is not to create a different face — but to meet the same face in its most rested form.

Procedure

What is a face lift?

A face lift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that corrects the skin laxity, deep wrinkles, and contour loss that accumulate on the face and neck over the years. In modern techniques, not only the skin but also the underlying SMAS (muscular-fascial) layer is worked upon.

A good face lift goes unnoticed — it only prompts "you look wonderful".

The key to proper planning is addressing the face's anatomical motion lines and volume losses together. In some cases it is combined with fat transfer or eyelid surgery.

II
Techniques

Method selection.

The most suitable technique for the patient is selected among the main approaches below:

01

Full Face Lift

The entire face and neck are addressed. The most comprehensive approach, with the most pronounced result.

02

Mini Face Lift

For younger patients, focusing on the mid-face and jawline with shorter recovery.

03

Neck Lift

Correction of loose skin and muscle in the neck area. Usually combined with a face lift.

III
Candidates

Who is a candidate?

Generally suitable for individuals over 40 with visible laxity and deep lines on the face.

  • Mid-face, jowl area (between cheek and chin), and neck laxity
  • General health suitable for surgery
  • Non-smokers or able to quit before surgery
  • Realistic expectations and time for recovery
  • Those seeking rejuvenation without changing facial expression

Note: In younger patients, non-invasive options such as thread lift or Botox/fillers may be considered before surgery.

IV
Recovery

Process timeline.

First week

Swelling and bruising are prominent. Pain is well controlled. Thin surgical bandage and head-elevated position are important.

Weeks 2 – 3

Swelling and bruising largely subside. Concealable with makeup. Return to social environments possible.

Months 1 – 3

Tissue settles, the shape of the result becomes clearer. Facial comfort increases.

Months 6 – 12

Incision scars are hidden in the hairline and in front of the ears; they fade almost completely within a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common queries.

How long does a face lift last? +
On average, visible effects last 7–10 years. The ageing process does not stop but the clock is rewound.
Will surgical scars be visible? +
Incisions are hidden along the hairline and behind the ear. They fade substantially within 6 months and become nearly invisible after a year.
Is it a painful operation? +
Much less painful than expected. There is a tightness sensation for the first few days; modern pain control manages it easily.
Can I achieve a natural result? +
Yes — proper SMAS layer work is the key to natural results. Overly tight, "windswept" appearances are avoided with modern techniques.
I am coming from abroad, how many days should I stay? +
A stay of 10–12 days in Istanbul is recommended. Bandage removal and early follow-ups are required.
